WEIGHT FOR WOMEN

Typically, when looking for the correct weight for women, the body mass index will be used.  Let me say up front that this is one of THE all-time most ridiculous methods going.

I am a 5'5" female and these crazy body mass calculators say for a woman my height, anything between 8 stone and 13 stone is a normal weight, not ideal mind you, but still in the normal weight range.  How stupid is that?

1.  Ideal Weight for Women - using the Body Mass Index

Theoretically, an ideal weight would be inside the healthy weight range for women as defined by the Body Mass Index - i.e. a BMI between 19 and 24.9.

2. Ideal Weight for Women - Using Fat %

An alternative, and much better method of calculating an ideal/ healthy weight for women is based on fat percentage.

Body Fat for Women

      Women
Normal     15-25 percent
Overweight     25.1-29.9 percent
Obese     Over 30 percent

You can have an exact measurement of your body-fat percent done by bioelectrical impedance, underwater weighing or skin-fold caliper.

However, the much maligned Tanita Scales are pretty good once you get a feel for when your body is holding surplus water.  You need to discount these days as it will screw up the fat percentage a little.
